The Violette Szabo GC Museum

 

The story and life of Violette Szabo is much in evidence at the museum along with life stories of the many resistance workers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Visitors can learn about Ravensbruck the concentration Camp that Violette and many of her compatriots were sent to following their capture.

 

Kilpeck Church

 

The church at Kilpeck, referred to as the church of St Mary and St David, is one of the finest surviving examples of the Herefordshire School of Sculpture.

Hereford Cathedral

This beautiful building is the home of the community which has worshipped and worked together here continuously for well over 1,300 years.

Goodrich Castle

Standing in open countryside above the River Wye, Goodrich Castle is one of the finest and best preserved of all English medieval castles. Boasting a fascinating history, spectacular views from the battlements and a delightful tea room Goodrich Castle promises a great day out for everyone.

 

Clearwell Caves

An extensive natural cave system, set in a beautiful valley. Show caves and mine workings with exciting displays throughout. Remarkably, the Caves have produced artists’ pigment for over 4,500 years and ochre pigments are still mined here today. You see our ochre workshop where pigment is still produced. Iron ore was mined here for over 2,000 years until 1945; making Clearwell Caves one of the most complex and ancient mine systems in Britain. Going underground here is a great experience for all the family and an essential part of any visit to the Forest of Dean.

 

Made in Ross

 

The unique work created by these artists and makers is on display to view (and buy!) everyday upstairs in the historic Ross-on-Wye Market House. ​
Come and see the wide range of affordable ​hand-made arts and crafts on offer and meet the individual artists and makers behind these original works.
Admission to the Market House, the Made in Ross Gallery and all of our exhibitions is Free.

PuzzleWood

 

Puzzlewood is a unique and enchanting place, located in the beautiful and historic Forest of Dean. Explore a mile of meandering pathways, with its fantastic tree and rock formations, through this 14 acre ancient woodland. It has an atmosphere quite unlike any other wood you have visited. JRR Tolkien is reputed to have taken his inspiration for the fabled forests of Middle Earth from Puzzlewood, and it's easy to see why.

The Black and White Trail

 

The Black & White Village Trail is a motor/cycle route through some of the prettiest villages and most beautiful landscape in England. The 40 mile circular trail leads west from the ancient town of Leominster, through a rich landscape of orchards, hopyards and distant hills, taking in the most picturesque black and white villages along the way as well as the little market town of Kington.

River Wye

 

The River Wye is a very Special River and one of the finest in Britain, and so it has been awarded status nationally as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and internationally as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) under the European Habitats and Species Directive.

 

Queenswood Arboretum

 

The planting of the arboretum at Queenswood began in 1953 to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.Think of it like a 'zoo for trees'! Queenswood hosts the Gruffalo trail with the recent addition of the Gruffalo's child trail. Perfect for children and dogs of all ages.

Westons Cider is nestled deep in the heart of cider making country, in the Herefordshire village of Much Marcle. We are an independent, family owned cider company run by a fourth generation of the Weston family; Helen Thomas (Managing Director). We have been producing authentic English ciders at the same beautiful location since 1880.

From children's classes to artisan and bread making classes to world foods and cooking experiences there is something for everyone.

Forest Bake House Longhope

All of our products are made in the bakery by hand using the finest ingredients and without additives or dough improvers.  Our one day course gives home bakers a basic understanding of the process of making sourdough bread and how to integrate it into a busy daily life. The small group course is run from our real working bakery and includes coffee, pastries and lunch, sending you home with lots of baked goods, your own sourdough starter and recipe booklet.

Mary Deaville is a Professional Associate of the SAA (Society if All Artists) living in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire. She enjoys painting, drawing and crafts and has been teaching since 2012. Now with her own Art Studio at The Venue, Hill St, Ross-on-Wye HR9 7DY She can provide painting tuition indoors at her Artist Studio or can take visitors on an outdoor painting experience to places of local interest.

Go Ape

 

Our two locations in the Forest of Dean - England's largest oak woodland - is arguably our most beautiful place of residency. Mallards Pike Lake, home to our original Tree Top Adventure and Forest Segway, is a great spot for a picnic or a gentle lakeside walk. Three miles down the road, in the heart of the forest, Beechenhurst Lodge plays host to our Tree Top Junior Adventure.

Ross-on-Wye Cider & Perry Co

We offer an in-depth Cider Tour & Taste experience, which ends with a tutored tasting and a bottle of our unique product to take home. The Cider Tour & Tasteincludes a guided walk through our orchards and a visit to the farm barns where the cider is pressed, fermented and bottled. We then take you to our Cider Shop and walk you through our bottled range, giving you an introduction to the unique and complex art of blending.
